Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ballingham railway station
Opened later than the other stations on the line, in 1908, Ballingham was actually closer to the nearby hamlet of Carey and there is some evidence that the GWR intended to call the station "Carey Road Bridge". The station never featured a passing loop or signal box, although there was a ground frame sited beneath the bridge from which this was taken which controlled access to the small goods yard on the other side of the bridge from the station. The typically Great Western scotch pines which adorned many of their stations are still thriving: they're also visible in Ben Brooksbank's SO5631 : Ballingham Station, taken from the same place nearly 60 years ago. Ben's shot also shows the station in its original form; following closure in 1964 it remained derelict for many years until it was purchased and extended upwards.
