Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This building at the Northeast corner of Market St & 22nd Ave was built in 1925 as the Pheasant-Wiggen Apartments by the undertaking firm of the same name. William R. Grant was the architect. Established in 1915 by Norwegian immigrant Olaf Wiggen and Jack Pheasant, they first did business in a converted home at the Southwest corner of 22nd Ave NW & W 56th St. In 1925 they purchased the vacant lot at the corner of 22nd and Market Street, a still mostly residential area at the time, and built this building to house their funeral parlor on the ground floor and apartments above. After Pheasant died in 1938, Wiggen, now working with his son and son-in-law as Wiggen & Son, removed from the building at the now bustling commercial intersection to 2014 Market Street, a building that had previously been occupied by a rival funeral home. The ground floor of their old building was then opened up for retail use with a Sears branch store being located here for many years and more recently a Tully's Coffee before that chain went out of business.
