Description
English:
Plaque on the building, giving an inaccurate date of construction
The Anderson Building at 5201 (originally 201-3) Ballard Ave NW was built in 1900, the first of several built by hotel and saloon owner Louis Anderson after his successful return from the gold fields in Alaska. The second story was used for lodgings, known as the Hazelton House. In 1928 Clinton McClure, then the landlord of the Hazelton, was arrested after attempting to burn the building to the ground by inserting numerous jars of gasoline in the ceiling connected to a gas stove with a tube, endangering the lives of the hotel's 20 residents. There were no injuries and damages were only $500. This building can be seen in the film "Harry and The Hendersons" as the location of the hunting shop. It is currently undergoing restoration to return its windows to a more historic configuration.
