Description
English: In 1824 gold was discovered in Aruba and this eventually led to the construction of two Gold Mills (Balashi and Bushiribana). In the picture you see the Balashi Gold Mill which was constructed in 1899 by the english 'Aruba Gold Concessions, Ltd' company in the Frenchman's Pass. After years of struggling to make profit the gold mill finally closed in 1916 due to lack of necessary material and machinery being imported during the First World War. Now it remains as a ruin which reminds us of Aruba's 'golden' past.
