Balanus: barnacle
Description
This chalk drawing of a barnacle shows the organism as it would be underwater while feeding - its hand-like cirri are used to pluck tiny particles of food out of the water. PH Gosse would probably have used this drawing as a teaching aid. It is very similar to the line drawing on page 193 of his book ‘Evenings at the Microscope’.
