Balanophyllia regia: scarlet and gold star-coral
Description
This drawing by PH Gosse was probably used as a teaching aid. It closely resembles plate 26 in his book ‘A naturalists rambles on the Devonshire coast’. The scarlet and gold star-coral (Balanophyllia regia) was described and named by Gosse in 1853.
