Summary
[edit]DescriptionBadeach from Auchindown's Cairn - geograph.org.uk - 1300872.jpg |
English: Badeach from Auchindown's Cairn. The trees mark the site of Badeach, where there are just a few remains to mark the former farmstead. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Scotland notes that, 'Badeach farmstead appears on the 1975 Ordnance Survey 1:10000 map as a single, roofed long building. Reference to the 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of Banffshire (1872) shows that this building was once part of a range which enclosed a courtyard on three sides. At this time, the entire range was shown as being roofed. Near the farmstead are a mill lade, sluice and dam, which suggests that water power was being used to drive farm machinery, such as a threshing machine, or a mill for grinding corn or oats." [1]. Not only have all the buildings vanished, even the mapped road south through Badeach no longer links with the other roads nearby. For information about the cairn see 1300868. |
