Title
Back of knife handle
Description
English: A bone knife handle in two parts probably dating to the post medieval period.

Each part of the knife handle is sub-rectangular in plan and D-shaped in section. The curved face has incised decoration in the form of a border made of several lines running parallel to the long sides with diagonal lines running between. The wider end of the handle is corroded and more worn than in other places and there are two circular perforations on both pieces of the handle which probably would have held rivets to hold the handle to the blade. The back of each part of the handle is flat and undecorated although there are some marks from the carving process.

A similar two-part handle has been recorded on the PAS database, see record SUR-EE98C6.
