Description

Budhist gallery in state museum:

A good number of architectural and railing member of amaravati stupa including the pillars; cross bars; and the coping stones; lotus medallions; Slabs depicted with purnaghata motifs; sculptures of garland bearers and bharavahakas are on display. A few panels depicted with stupa; Dharmachakar and uppugunduru (1st century B. C); Bodhisattva fingers from tirumalagiri; Buddha statues from Amaravati and Uppugunduru (1st century A. D to 3rd century A. D) are also on display; besides a model of Amaravati stupa; erected to facilitate the students of architecture to understand Buddhist art and architecture.

The Buddha figure from uppugunduru in prakasam district is a fine specimen with ushnisha; curly hair turned to right and urns on the forehead; the drapery and half closed eyes represent the late phase of Amaravati school of art in which iconometrical and iconographical norms were followed.

The gallery facilitates the visitors to understand the early art tradition of the satavahana and ikshvaku periods.
