Title
BUCKLE
Description
English:

An incomplete Medieval copper alloy buckle and strap plate that is missing only its pin dating to c.AD 1350-1400

The frame is sub-rectangular in plan and oval in cross section. The outer edge has a larger diameter than the rest of the frame. A rectangular copper alloy plate wraps around the opposite axis bar. This is two hole pierced into it. one overlaying the axis bar to allow for a hinged pin, the opposite near the outer edge of the plate to attatch the plate to a leather belt.

The buckle is a medium green colour.

It is 34.9mm long, and 24.8mm wide.

Similar buckles are illsutrated by Whitehead (2003: 27, No. 140) which he defines as buckles and clasp fastners dating to c.1350-1400. Egan & Pritchard also illustrate a similar buckle (1991: 77, No. 315) excavated in a context dating to a similar period.
