Title
BUCKLE
Description
English:

A medieval copper alloy buckle with integral plate dating to c AD 1200-1230. The buckle is missing its pin but is otherwise complete. The buckle comprises an oval frame with a notched lip to hold the pin and the frame curves up slightly next to the hole for the missing pin. The plate is bilobed and apart from the hole for the pin there is also a rivet hole in the lower lobe. The patina is orangey brown with green patches which appear to have been a dressing over the buckle. The buckle weighs 3.1g and measures 29.88mm in length, 16.72mm in width and 3.28mm in thickness. Cf Egan, G and Pritchard, F, 1991, Medieval Finds from Excavations in London: 3 Dress Accessories c 1150-c 1450, HMSO, London p 106, fig 68, no 482.
