Title |
BUCKLE |
||
Description |
English: Copper-alloy single loop buckle frame. It is small and sub-rectangular, with a thickened outside edge decorated with three slightly off-centre transverse grooves forming the pin rest. The top and bottom edges are slightly outcurved, with a moulding at either end; one of these mouldings though is missing (near the bar). The bar has a bump in the centre, either caused by wear from two hinge loops of a now-missing plate, or deliberately cast in this shape to retain the plate. The reverse is flat. Length 17 mm, width 11 mm, thickness 2 mm, weight 1.59g. Similar frames from buckles and clasps in London come from contexts of c. AD 1300-1450 (Egan and Pritchard 1991, nos. 434-439 and nos. 551-569). |
