Title
BUCKLE
Description
English:
An fragment of a medieval or post-medieval cast copper alloy buckle plate (buckle missing) dating to AD1250 - 1550. The plate is made up of approximately half of a folded sheet with two circular rivet holes (rivets are in place) in line along the length of the plate, and a sub-oval cut in the end to take the pin of the buckle, now missing. The sheet expands in the fold, either side of this cut, to take the pin bar but this is missing also and the plate has broken off at an early date at this fold. The corners of the plate are slightly rounded, and the metal is cut away at the fold so that the plate narrows at the buckle end. The whole item is crusted and abraded, and iron corrosion suggests iron rivets have been used.
It is 20.44mm long, 16.87mm wide, 1.45mm thick. It weighs 1.69g.
