Title
BUCKLE
Description
English:

Copper-alloy Medieval buckle and buckle plate. The buckle loop is D-shaped and expanded on the outside edge. The loop tapers around to an offset and thinned strap bar. There is also a grooved on the outside edge but this appears to be on the wrong side to act as a pin rest. The buckle plate is made from a folded over sheet. It is attached to the bar by two struts between which is the pin slot. There is frame recesses on either side. There is four rivets through the plate at each corner, one of which is extant. The pin is missing. The backplate is also broken about 2/3 of the way along nearest the loop. There is a significant amount of wear visible on the strap bar. The dark green patina is fairly even with a few patches of brown.

This buckle is similar to Whitehead 2016: 19. Nos. 52-4. (c.AD1250 - 1450).

Overall length: 36.9, Loop length 13.6mm, Loop width: 18.2, Loop thickness: 4.9mm, Plate length: 26.3mm, Plate height: 10.9mm, Plate thickness: 2.5mm.
