Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

A copper alloy Iron Age/Roman Nauheim derivative brooch dating to c AD 25-100. The brooch is incomlet and all that remains is the bow and a small part of the catchplate. At the top of the bow is small and circular in cross section and is the part that would have been between the coils of the springs. This broadens into the main part of the bow and curves over and down towards the foot which is missing its tip and has a small part of the catchplate extending out to the back. The bow is decorated with an incised line down the centre and on either side ridges of small diagonal incisions to about half way down the bow where there is a transverse incised line and below this the decoration becomes a single rib of small diagonal incisions alternating on each side. The patina is dark brown. The brooch weighs 1.54g and measures 33.4mm in length, 3.12mm in width and 11.18mm in height.
