Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch, dating to the period AD 75-175. The brooch measures 38.23mm in length and 19.73mm in width. It is 15.58mm thick and weighs 11.47g. The patina is relatively smooth, the colour is mostly dark green with specks of brown. The pin is missing.

The wings are circular, housing the slightly corroded pin mechanism. Both wings terminate in complete end caps. The top of the head is decorated with a knop. The bow extends from the top of the wings in the characteristic dolphin 'hump'. At the top part, the bow is decorated with a crescent shaped plateau curving around the wings. At its widest spot at the top, the bow is 10.32mm wide, narrowing down to 3.28mm at the foot. The catchplate extends to the rear and measures 11.32mm in length and 2.7mm in width.
