Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

A copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative double lug brooch dating to c AD 43-100. The brooch is missing part of one wing, the pin and the curl on the edge of the catchplate. The spring retaining bar is broken and the spring on one side is bent and unravelling. At the top of brooch is a raised plate with two holes pierced through it. The wings extend to the side and half cover the springs. The bow extends down in a smooth curve to a point at the foot and is circular in plan. The catchplate extends back from the foot of the bow. The spring originally had six coils on each side around a central retaining bar. The brooch is undecorated apart from an incised vertical line around the ends of the wings.
