Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

An incomplete Iron Age or Roman strip bow brooch (Aucissa derivative) dating to 1st century AD. It is missing its pin, most of the head and there is damage to the catchplate but is otherwise complete. It is bent and would probably have been more or less straight originally, is 46.66mm in length. It would have had forward rolled wings, but now simply shows a split for the pin at the top of the bow where the roll would have begun. The bow is 7.54mm in width at this point, tapering to a pointed foot where the catchplate extends from the inside surface. The catchplate is triangular with damage to the outer edge such that the pin curl is absent. The outside edges of the outer surface of the bow are recessed so that the main part of the D shaped section of the bow is raised above the edge. It weighs 2.23g.
