Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy, Trumpet type brooch, dating to AD50 - 200. The head is semi-circular (20.17mm in width/diameter) and slightly convex, with a central spine running from just below a head loop (now missing, broken off at an early date) and down the centre of the bow which is consequently sub-triangular in cross-section. The inside base of the head is taken up with the curl of the hinge. The pin spindle is in place and there is a slot for the pin itself with the loop of the top of the pin in place but the rest missing.

The remains of the brooch are 21.97mm in length. It has broken, at an early date, c9mm below the head.

The brooch weighs 4.40g. It has a grey-green patina.

Cf Hattatt 2007 p326 fig185 no1436 for a brooch with a similar head.
