Summary

[edit]
Description

The sheltered waterway between the imposing fortifications and the pounding sea. It affords shelter to the pleasure of the nearby residents. This was the place from where most of the stone needed for the new city of Valletta was quarried in the sixteenth century. It became a natural safe place for sea craft but unfortunately it is marred by the shabby green boat houses along the inner part of this waterway. The sea craft vary from the typical Maltese ‘dghajsa’ to a modern speedboat. The authorities have to see that such structures are changed into more environmentally and aesthetically friendly ones. In the olden times this watery channel had been the place from where stones were quarried for the building of the Valletta fortifications.
