Français : Publié en 1786, le second tome des Voyages dans les Alpes d’Horace-Bénédict de Saussure s’ouvre sur une carte du massif du mont Blanc et de ses environs, dressée par son compatriote genevois Marc-Auguste Pictet. Il s’agit de la première carte détaillée d’un ensemble montagneux, qui vaut notamment pour la richesse de la toponymie. A proximité du mont Blanc, on relève notamment le mont « Peteret » (Peuterey), au sud-est, l’aiguille du « Gouté » (Goûter), à l’ouest, et l’aiguille du Midi au nord. La mer de Glace est ici nommée glacier des Bois. Le dessin du relief n’a en revanche rien de novateur comparé aux cartes des Alpes précédentes. L’éclairage des sommets par l’ouest fait ressortir le tracé des vallées. L’altitude des principaux sommets est indiquée à gauche de la carte.
