Français : Un demi-siècle après Pierre Bert, Pierre Duval publie dans sa Géographie universelle une mappemonde qui laisse voir de nombreuses zones d’ignorance cartographique. Elle signale des territoires dont l’intérieur est vierge d’exploration, leurs contours inachevés, incertains, ou inconnus. Ainsi de la Nouvelle-Zélande, incomplète, qui semble rattachée à la Magellanie, de la « Nouvelle Hollande » (l’Australie) au contour interrompu, et au nord, de l’Alaska et des côtes de la Sibérie. La carte mentionne encore des « Terres antarctiques dites australes et magellaniques » ou des « Terres australes et inconnues » au sud de l’Amérique, du Pacifique, de l’Afrique et de l’Asie.
