Title
BLADE
Description
English:

A group of twenty six pieces of Mesolithic flint and chert debitage in the form of blades and bladelets, dating to the period c. 9000-2350 BC.

The majority of pieces have been struck off a tertiary flake with no evidence of cortex remaining. However three pieces have been struck off a secondary flake, retaining between 5 and 20% of their cortex. The dorsal faces on all pieces exhibit negative flake scars, with the majority of the assembalge only having only two (5 pieces have three or more negative flake scars). The ventral faces all exhibit a low diffuse bulb of percussion with weakly defined conchodial ripple marks. Several are snapped blades, in a few there is retouch evidence suggesting this was deliberate, others may be deliberate or accidental. A few have deliberately created notches, probably failed attempts to also snap these blades to create microliths.

The majority of the flint is dark grey in colour with, lighter grey and white inclusions, while the chert is a buff to dark orange colour with reddish orange inclusions.

The assemblage weighs 44g
