Photograph of British 12 inch howitzer Mk. I on railway mounting, Western Front, World War I.
See also File:12 inch railway howitzer Dickebusche 1917 IWM Q 709.jpg which appears to be part of the same photo sequence.
Comment : the gun is not currently in action. When firing, one end of the timber beams seen on the ground next to the rear wheels will be fitted into the visible slots in the top side of the bogies, with the other end anchored in the ground. This would improve stability of the gun and hence accuracy.


Note that this version has had brightness and contrast artificially increased to highlight details.
