English:

An incomplete post-medieval copper alloy animal (crotal) bell, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1800. The fragment comprises of the incomplete upper of two hemispheres and rectangular loop, probably made using a detachable sprue-piece. The hemisphere is plain, with two sub-circular sound holes, one of which is incomplete.

Dimensions: height 26.9mm; diameter 32.1mm; weight 11.50g.

cf. numerous similar bells on the PAS database, Allan (1984: fig. 191, no. 139) publishes a similar bell excavated in Exeter, unfortunately an unstratified find.
