Summary

[edit]
Description

The design is that of the Northern Constabulary Badge, as produced by Supt G.I. Henderson on 1979, with the slight alteration for band purposes that the title circlet has the lettering in "white" with black background rather that the reverse, which was done to facilitate enamelling. For the Glengarry (hat) badge, the design is solely the Force Badge , but in respect of the lapel badge, there is a rocker below on blue enamel with "PIPE BAND" thereon. The lapel badges were originally to be a fundraiser but the players liked the badge so much it was decided to make it official band insignia - worn on the lapel of the jacket. Chrome (silver) is issued to all members other than senior members who are issued with the badge in gilt.

The Band was set up in 2002 with the approval of the Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary. Although the force ceased to exist on 31st March 2014 - it merged into Police Service of Scotland the following day - the Band members resolved to retain the name in tribute to all the men and women who served with distinction in the force at any time during its existence (16.05.1973 - 31.03.2014) whether as regular police, special constabulary, police support staff or traffic wardens (and including family members who supported these personnel in their duty).

Northern Constabulary policed the Highland Region of Scotland and the Island Areas of Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, and its motto was "excellence in community policing". The Band is therefore proud to include the word "community" in its title.

The Band is comprised of serving and retired police officers, family members, and members of the community from all over the erstwhile force area.

The Band is not supported financially by the Police Service of Scotland but relies on performance fees, donations, and fundraising by members. Northern Constabulary Community Pipe Band is registered as a Scottish Charity: SC033704
