DescriptionBAC TSR-2.jpg |
The second prototype TSR-2 (Serial No. XR220) on display at the Royal air Force Museum, Cosford. This photograph shows the open avionics bay. The TSR-2 was designed as a low altitude, high speed tactical strike and reconnaisance aircraft to penetrate Soviet defences by flying under their radar cover, requiring advanced terrain following avionics. The project was cancelled by the British Government on 6th April 1965, the same day that XR220 was due to make its first flight and as a result only the first prototype, XR219, ever flew. A third airframe had also been completed XR222 now on display at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Wikipedia article on theTSR-2 Photo ref; SNC10156 |
