Description
English: Cast copper alloy single loop D-shaped buckle frame with separate sheet metal plate. The frame has a lipped outer edge with a grooved pin rest in the middle and is D-sectioned. The bar is narrowed and slightly off-set from the frame. The bar has a circular cross-section. Attached to the bar is a sheet-metal buckle plate. The plate is triangular in shape with a small four-lobed expanded terminal at the apex (distal end). There is a small circular hole towards the proximal end of the plate for attachment to the belt or strap. The front of the plate is decorated with cast chevrons, alternately stippled and plain. The plate is attached to the frame by a triangular off-set tab with a large rectangular aperture for the attachment and articulation of the missing pin. the apex of this plate has been broken off, leaving part of the circular hole for the attachment rivet. Date: Probably Late medieval - probably 15th century
