English: The map was first issued in Gerard Mercator's Atlas sive Cosmographicae ... published by Johannes Cloppenburg in 1630. The atlas was intended to fill the gap between the smaller Atlas Minor and larger Mercator-Hondius folio atlas. This map is from an apparently unrecorded Italian edition, possibly published by Gregorio Leti. |
