Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The group is located in PhuKhao Thong sub-district, Phra Nakorn Si Ayutthaya district. It was founded by a group of housewives with an objective of carrying on an intention of their ancestors who had once resided and made a living along the Chao Phraya River for over a hundred years. It is presumed that this weaving art was first created by Thai-Muslim with a belief that the fish (Silver Barb) symbolize fertility and prosperity. With this regard, people craft a mobile of woven fish, in various sizes, using local materials such as coconut leave, talipot palm, and sugar palm, and hang it over their baby’s cradle in the hope that the baby will grow up wealthy. Today, palm-leave woven fish mobiles have become a unique product of the province. The price starts from 10 – 1,000 baht depends on the size and quality. Visitors can buy it at the shop in front of Wiharn Phra Mongkhon Bopit and Rattanachai shop on Rojana Road.
