Title |
Aynho: Roman disc brooch |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Tutulus brooch dating to the second century AD. The brooch has a circular disc plate with raised but hollow conical boss in the centre. There are no perimeter lugs. The conical boss is divided into three sections by raised concentric bands. The lower band is decorated with many small lines to give a rope effect, while the other two bands are plain. The conical boss is hollow on the reverse, and there is an integral catchplate and double lug for a hinged pin either side of it, although the pin is missing. There is some damage to part of the outer rim of the brooch.
This brooch measures 21.79mm diameter and is 10.14mm high with the boss. It weighs 4gms. |
