Axe fragments |

Description |
English: 1: Fragment of bronze moulded mouth probably from a socketed axe. One side survives with a trace of casting sprue at the top of the socket. It has realtively slight single mouth moulding. It is patinated dark green and medium to dark brown on the interoir but affected by corrosion on the exterior resulting in some flaking and a medium green colouring. It measures 32mm in surviving length, 26mm in width and weighs 14.9g. 2: A small fragment of a bronze socketed implement, probably a socketed axe. The side splays out externally and inteernally, it appears to be near the end of the socket so presumably near the blade end. The surfaces are partly pocked by invasive corrosion. There is some dark brown patina but mainly medium to dark green. It measures 25mm in surviving length, 30mm in width and 14.3g in weight. Both fragments are late Bronze Age in date circa 1200-800 BC. |
