Title
Axe fragment
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy socketed axe socket with a large loop. This axehead has been 'hammer' broken. It is severely hammered on one face. It has pronounced mouth/socket moulding, although it is too fragmentary to be able to tell if a secondary moulding survived below. The loop is heavy and broad and is 14.5mm in width. Although this axe is too incomplete to be certain the large loop and pronounced socket moulding are suggestive of a very late date for this axe. Therefore it is probably late Bronze Age 3 or 4, that is proto or full Hallstatt C c.800-700 BC in date.
