Title |
Axe |
||
Description |
English: A fragment from the blade end of a hammer broken socketed bronze axe, measuring 38mm in surviving length and 32mm in width. The end of the socket void survives as does part of one side, with a tooled casting seam, and the rounded tip of the cutting edge. There is minimal hammer expansion present on the tip of the cutting edge. The remainder of the cutting edge is broken away, though no hammer breakage marks are present on this edge. Hammer breakage dents are however present on both faces near the socket void. This hammer breakage suggests that this axe fragment could have originally have been part of a late Bronze Age hoard. The fragment is patinated medium and dark green with a few small areas of pale green corrosion products. All the breaks are ancient. |
