Title
Axe
Description
English: The blade end of an incomplete cast bronze axehead, with the blade, part of the body, the socket and possibly part of the loop stub surviving. The surface condition of this axehead is generally very poor with extensive loss of the original surface and invasive corrosion. This axehead has been 'hammer' crushed and broken. Both faces are crushed. The blade end is extremely worn and blunt - almost rounded, the main break is ancient. The original surface is patinated dark brown. The socket is filled with earth. There is a raised area on one side of the axehead just below the break, this could possibly be the beginning of the loop, which would make this axehead a short form of late Bronze Age socketed axehead. This axehead could possibly have originally been part of a Bronze Age Founders' hoard.
