Title
Axe
Description
English: The blade end of a cast bronze probable flat axe. Measuring 24mm in surviving length, 45mm in width, at the blade and 8mm in thickness.

The surface of the fragment is corroded, but where it is not there is a dark brown patina. Where corroded the patina is pocked and pale to medium green. Due to corrosion the arched cutting edge is somewhat asymmetrical. There is a slight bevel about 13mm behind the cutting edge. The body has a quite thin cross-section at the break. Although the surface is damaged by partial corrosion no moulding seams are visible on the sides of the body. These two factors suggest that this fragment is probably from a small flat axe, possibly of Arreton form and dating to the end of the early Bronze Age c 1650-1400BC.
