Title
awl
Description
English: A large flat, quite thin dark brown and dark grey flint flake with mottled opaque cream inclusions. It is too curved to be a transverse arrowhead. On the long ragged right margin there is a ventral notch. From the distal tip there is bifacial retouch down the left dorsal margin. with patches of dorsal use gloss. On the same margin is a mesal notch. On the long oblique margin there is invasive but blunted flakework, removing the bulb of percussion and accentuating a proximal point, using a little steep fine retouch. This all adds up to a combination tool with 2 awls and 2 notches.Mercer(1981) illustrates an awl on page 137, Fig 60, L170.
