Title
Awl
Description
English: A large thin flat flake of dark brown translucent flint with opaque grey inclusions. The distal end has been worked to a point with invasive retouch covering the distal end of the dorsal surface from both margins and almost entirely covering the ventral surface but only from one edge. The piece is too large to be an arrowhead and has mesal ventral gloss close to one margin suggesting repetitive use, such as being twisted as an awl. Mercer(1986) illustrates an awl on page 137, fig 60, L172.
