Title
Awl
Description
English: Possible awl. The 'business end' or distal end of the awl is missing. Almost all of the ventral face, both edges and distal end, has been invasively retouched apart from a central section. The proximal end has been heavily retouched, like 'crushing', which may have been used as the hand held part of the tool. On the dorsal face, flakes have been removed diagonally across the length of the piece, possibly to thin it. There is a small amount of cortex on the right margin near the distal end. The left margin has invasive retouch near the proximal end. The flint if grey/ brown nodular flint with white fleks.

Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 186, Fig 76, No 1 which dates to the Bronze Age.
