Title
Awl, possibly Bronze Age
Description
English: One end of a cast copper alloy awl or tracer. The centre of the awl, which is sub-square in cross-section, measures 4.7mm by 4.6mm. This centre is at the transition from a circular section to a square cross section. To one side it tapers, gradually at first then increasingly, to a circular sectioned point at the complete end (awl). The other end is rectangular in section and tapers gradually to the old break (3.7mm by 4.0mm) but probably originally ended in a rectangular sectioned point (tracer end). It is 36.9mm long and weighs 3.14 grams.

Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely but ones of this form are known to have been introduced in the Bronze Age (2150-800 BC) with most being Late Bronze Age in date (1150-800 BC). SOM-D995B1 and SOM-7C6ED1 on this database are similar.
