English: The grave of Sir Alexander MacKenzie and family. Mackenzie (1764 – March 12, 1820) is buried in the churchyard of the Parish Church in the village of Avoch (pronounced OCH, as in LOCH) on the Black Isle in Ross & Cromarty, just north of Inverness. His grave is marked by a copy of the inscription he left at Bella Coola River in British Columbia when in 1793 he completed the first recorded transcontinental crossing of North America north of Mexico. |
