Summary
[edit]DescriptionAvocet Mother and Chicks (47775232372).jpg |
NPS/Patrick Myers As we celebrate #MothersDay this weekend, we also see touching examples of motherhood in the diverse ecosystems of Great Sand Dunes NPP. When avocet moms and dads sense danger, they call their young, then kneel to make a shelter. This avocet mom is kneeling beside alkali mineral deposits of the sabkha, a wetland region west of the dunefield. Happy Mother's Day! |
