Español: Las avispas del género Sphex hay más de 130 especies y son depredadoras.
En época de reproducirse, construye una cueva con la entrada en lo alto de un montículo. Pone los huevos en su interior y sale de caza, un grillo, un saltamontes o una oruga, le clava el aguijón para inyectarle toxinas que lo paralizan pero manteniéndola con vida. Entonces arrastra a su presa hasta su nido y revisa que todo sigue en orden, introduce a la presa en la cueva depositándola junto a los huevos, esta seguira viva hasta que eclosionen y se la coman .
