Description |
English: Cast copper-alloy button brooch; Avent and Evison 1982, Class Bi. Rounded helmet, almost horizontal eyebrows, angular eyes, the single eye-ring merges with the cheeks to form a single element, and the simple open mouth extends into a narrow band below the cheeks. The single hinge lug is broken and the catch, which is largely intact, is bent over. Much of the upturned rim is missing. Dark, almost black patina. Other examples of this type are known from Droxford, Winchester and Chessell Down, Isle of Wight (Avent and Evison 1982, 106, no. 10.4 & 13.1 plate xv)
