| Description |
English: Auxiliary Unit operational base, Coleshill (1 of 4). In 1940 the UK stood alone against Germany. British and Allied forces had escaped from the continent at Dunkirk but left behind huge amounts of matériel and equipment. The UK Government feared invasion was likely and made plans accordingly. In addition to the well-known Home Guard, their plans included the setting up of secret 'Auxiliary Units' who would form a resistance organisation to engage and harass the invading forces.
