Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Open Conformation: The positively charged IAK region of the tail (blue) is not present and therefore kinesin motor domains (yellow and orange) can move freely along the microtubule (MT). Closed Conformation: The IAK region of the tail (blue) hydrogen bonds at two locations with negatively charged residues (red) of the kinesin motor domains (yellow and orange) to inhibit the enzymatic cycle of the kinesin-1, forcing the molecular motor to maintain a closed conformation which prevents binding to the MT.
