. On a steep cliff above itis the ruin of Alt-Hohenems, and 2 M. to the N., on the preci-pitous Glopper, is the restored castle of Neu-Hohenems. To the W., from the plain of the Rhine, rises the Kammenberg(2190 ft.). Near (15V2 M.) Gotzis (1400 ft.; Hot. Montfort), to theleft, is the ruined, castle of Neu-Montfort. — 20x/2 M. Rankweil(1515 ft.; Hecht, R. lf/4-l*/a K; Zum Schiltzen), at the mouth of theLaternser-Tal. The ascent of the *Hoher Preschen (6580ft.; 5V2-6hrs.; guide, 10 K,needless for experts) is attractive but somewhat fatiguing. The Freschen-haus (inn) is V2 hr. from the top. Panorama of the Vorarlberg, Appen-zell, and Grlarus Alps, Lake of Constance, etc. 23 M. Feldkirch (1495 ft.; Rail. Restaurant; EnglischerHofor Post, R. 2-6 K; Bdren, R. 2-4 K, with beer-garden, both good;Vorarlberger Hof, at the station; Lowe; Schiifle, R. l1/4-2 7i;pop. 5060), a pleasant little town, 10 min. from the station, is domi-nated by the.large castle of Schattenburg. Parish-church of 1487.
