Summary
[edit]DescriptionAustin Kimberley (X6) (11336294073).jpg |
This is one of my all time favourite cars, mainly because it is an Austin like no other that was exclusive to Australia and New Zealand. The Kimberley and its lower spec Tasman sibling were designed to be the locally produced replacement for the Austin 1800 in Australia and NZ. They are genuine six seaters, with two bench seats. It is bigger in reality than it looks here! What set the Tasman and Kimberley apart from the Holdens, Fords and Chryslers they were competing with was the fact they were FWD, which gave them a modern edge in terms of handling and ride. Unfortunately this alone did not save the cars, and the Tasberley - as some would call them - only lasted two years (1970-1972). Sadly they are few and far between now, and so seeing two at Martin's garage at Hinds was a privilege. |
