Description AusAID supports homecare through the Hospice Association of the Witwatersrand - the only hospice in Soweto, South Africa where HIV/AIDS infection rates are very high. As a result the hospice and its supporting services care mainly for those with HIV/AIDS. AusAID helps the hospice train community volunteers as nurses and HIV educators. Here a man weaves on a loom as part of a craft program to give those with HIV both something to do and a means to generate some income for themselves and their families. The stigma associated with the virus means many people lose their jobs and are shunned from the community. Support programs such as these are vital. 2006. Photo: AusAID
