Rückseite: L MESCIN[IVS - RV]FVS III VIR -/ [S P Q R / V P S PR S ET / RED AVG] [Senatus populusque Romanus vota publica suscepta pro salute et reditu Augusti]. Behelmter Mars steht in der Vorderansicht auf einem Podest mit Aufschrift in drei Zeilen. Kopf nach l., in der r. Hand einen abgesenkten Speer, im l. Arm ein Kurzschwert haltend.

Kommentar: Die Vorderseite präsentiert eine Schildbüste des Augustus, die ihm in seiner Eigenschaft als 'conservator der res publica' von Senat und Volk geweiht worden war. Hintergrund der Marsdarstellung auf der Rückseite ist der Aufbruch des Augustus nach Gallien im Jahre 16 v. Chr. Da seine labile Gesundheit allbekannt war und das Reisen ohnehin verschiedene Gefährdungen mit sich brachte, wurden auf Beschluss von Senat und Volk dem Iupiter (vgl. RIC I² Nr. 358, Rückseite) Gelübde dargebracht, mit denen seine Rückkehr unter den Schutz dieses Gottes gestellt werden sollte. Mars symbolisiert die erwarteten kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen.
